NIS
Short History: Past, Present and Future
Naseem was established by Mrs. Sameera
Abdul Jabbar AL Kooheji in December 1981 to answer a
pressing demand for a good bilingual school to cater
Bahraini and other Arab children. In January 1982 it opened
its door to Nursery pupils in a small building in Burhama.
Within six months, enrollment grew by
over ten-fold from five pupils in January to sixty pupils in
June. Enrollment grew steadily to reach 100 students in the
following year and 130 in 1985-86. Enrollment had to be
frozen due to lack of space.

In 1986-87 Naseem School moved to
bigger premises in Ghudaibiya. An Elementary section was
started. Enrollment increased from 160 students in the first
year to 280 in 1990-1991. Once again the school outgrew
the planned space. In April 1991, the school moved to yet
bigger premises in Adliya. This move was temporary. Plans to
build a Naseem School Campus were on the drawing board. The
school kept on growing, and enrollment in 1991-1992 was at
310.
The steady growth during the last
decade enabled the school administration and faculty to go
ahead with continuous development plans. A more advanced
curriculum was opted for in 1991 and faculty qualifications
were consequently upgraded.

In September 1992-1993 Naseem
inaugurated the Intermediate section. Enrollment was 360.
By 1993-1994 student enrollment had increased to 440 in one
year.
Work on the new Naseem School campus
started at the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan, year
1414 (February 1994). The three-wing building is located on
a 11,498 m2 plot of land, with a total floor plan
of 6,606,57 m2 in the main instructional wings.
The middle section, comprises offices and a sheltered
verandah with an area of 500m2, a library of over 600m2,
five 85m2 laboratories, as well as other facilities. With
costs exceeding BD one million, the building was completed
in April 1995. The campus is designed to fulfill all future
requirements of the Naseem School, serving the needs of 1000
students from Nursery through Grade 12.
The
1994-1995 academic year opened on the new campus with an
enrollment of 520 students. The main instructional areas had
been completed in a record six months.
As a result of the teaching programs
adopted and the growing number of international educators
employed , the school changed its name to Naseem
International School in 1999.
The International Baccalaureate
Diploma was in place in time for our first senior students
who graduated in 1998. The number of students involved in
the program has grown considerably since then. The diploma
results have been consistently good over the years.
In addition to the IBO's Diploma
program, the school is involved in introducing the PYP
program, nursery to Grade 6. Currently, the faculty is
preparing to pilot the MYP from September 2004. These
curricular developments are a reflection of the school's
commitment to student-centered learning and a belief in
fostering and developing those skills required for the High
School program, further education and life-long learning.
The campus has also grown to include a
new Arts and Sports complex costing half a million Bahraini
Dinars. Opened in 2002, the building houses a sports hall,
art studio, music and home economics rooms, a car park for
faculty and staff and a soccer playing field. Current plans
include the building of a canteen and technology suite. It
is envisaged that this development will be ready for the
beginning of the academic year 2005-2006.
The school's student population is
currently 785,Nursery to Grade 12
Naseem International School is
accredited KG to G12 by the Middle States Association for
Schools and Colleges (MSA). The High School Diploma is
recognized by the Ministry of Education as the equivalent
of Bahrain's Secondary Diploma. The school is a member of
the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and NESA,
ASCD, CITA, ISS and affiliated to CIS. |
